Dara Barker: Encaustic Study IV for General Public

$1,935 /$2,765

Inspired by the Japanese concept of wabi sabi, Dara Barker's encaustic series celebrates the beauty of imperfection wrought by the inexorable passage of time. The artist and interior designer draws on her collection of vintage textiles, reimagining their organic textures in dimensional canvases. Layers of translucent wax, paint and oil pastels are applied and burnished to evoke the rich patina and character of an antique piece. The luminous works beautifully reflect the light, its sheen shifting with the angle of view.

General Public, an art curation and publishing company based in LA, is revolutionizing the way we think about and collect art. Founded by Portia de Rossi, a collector and art world disruptor, General Public makes a radical proposition: a painting shouldn't be enjoyed by just one person, but should be available to all. The General Public Synograph™, a groundbreaking 3-D technology, redefines the limits of printing, recreating every detail of the original artwork with total fidelity. Capturing the nuances of brushwork and technique, these textured prints are an authentic expression of the artist's hand.
